Supermarket Development Information


  1. “Big box development”
    Bigger than Safeway/Belgrave and Foodworks/Upwey together, a staggering 2,638m
    2 including a “retail shop” (aka bottleshop)

  2. 3 storey high on the north face

  3. Modern design, proportions of the building are of an industrial/inner city scale and does not show sympathy to surrounding township (3 storeys high in the back, mainly glass and concrete)

  4. Traffic forecasts an additional 320 vehicles per hour in peak hour - 3,348 additional vehicles per day.

  5. Supermarket would have 130 car parks – 122 car parks would be demolished to make room for the supermarket

  6. According to council report a right turning lane into supermarket carpark highly likely (coming from Belgrave)

  7. Leaving supermarket carpark right turn into Burwood Hwy (towards Ferntree Gully) very likely to be prohibited, instead traffic will exit via Sandells Rd. Again council estimate.
