News 2009

02/2010

  1. You may have seen headlines in the newspapers about the proposed Tecoma supermarket development having been settled. That is far from the truth.

  2. The developers asked for and were granted a stay in proceedings in the Victoria Civil and Administrative Council (VCAT) in order to brief a new legal firm. The hearing is now scheduled for 7th September 2009.

Car Boot Sale - Thank you for your support

  1. On Saturday the 27th June, members of Tecoma Village Action Group conducted a “Sausage Sizzle” on the corner of Burwood Highway and Sandells Rd to raise funds for the upcoming VCAT hearing and provide updated information about the proposed supermarket over-development.

  2. Funds are desperately needed in order to provide a balanced legal argument at VCAT as to why the supermarket developer’s proposal is an over-development for Tecoma and the Dandenongs. This argument will be supported by expert opinion and research; for example our traffic survey; all of which costs money.

Public Interest

  1. Originating out of a public meeting last summer at Upwey Primary School, a group of concerned residents came together to express concern over a developer’s proposal to build a massively inappropriate supermarket in Tecoma. This original group has now become incorporated into the Tecoma Village Action Group

Founding

  1. On Saturday 25th July 2009 TVAG highlighted the impact such a massive supermarket development in Tecoma would have on the Village of Upwey.

  2. By conducting another “sausage sizzle” outside the Foodworks Supermarket in Upwey, members of TVAG were able to raise awareness of this important “side effect”.

  3. Although the sausage sizzle did contribute a couple of hundred dollars towards our VCAT costs, more contributions are still required. All help is appreciated.

Fundraiser - Save Upwey

It was fun and informative

Movie Night

  1. On Saturday 15th August 2009 (10:00am - 2:00pm) TVAG conducted another “sausage sizzle” information session outside the Library in Belgrave to raise awareness of the impact of a SUPERmarket in Tecoma.

  2. Unlike areas such as Fountain Gate and Berwick, the population of this area is not increasing. Thus any customers attracted to a supermarket in Tecoma will be taking away their custom from places like Belgrave.

Information Session - Belgrave

  1. On Saturday the 29th August, members of Tecoma Village Action Group will be conducting another “Sausage Sizzle” on the corner of Burwood Highway and Sandells Rd to raise funds for the upcoming VCAT hearing and provide updated information about the proposed supermarket over-development.

  2. Funds are still needed in order to provide a balanced legal argument at VCAT, especially in light of the ‘last minute alteration tactics’ that the developer is using.

  2. Special thanks go to Jacob, the Upwey Butcher, for supplying the delicious meat for the BBQ.
